A beautiful period cottage set in the centre of Caldbeck, a very attractive unspoilt Lake District Village

Glebe Cottage is a self contained part of The Old Rectory in the centre of Caldbeck Village at the North West boundary of the Lake District National Park.

Caldbeck village
Within easy walking distance of the cottage there are many shops and services including:

  • Kirkland Stores shop selling weekday papers, groceries (including fruit and vegetables) and off licence.
  • The Oddfellows Arms pub which serves lunch and evening meals.
  • Two cafes.
  • Doctor’s surgery.
  • Priest’s Mill which houses craft shops, jewellers and a café.
  • Hairdresser.

The local huntsman, John Peel, is buried in St Kentigern’s Church graveyard next door to the cottage. The Blencathra Foxhounds still meet in the village from time to time.

Local villages, towns and cities
Hesket Newmarket Village, boasting The Old Crown, an excellent micro brewery pub, is one mile from Caldbeck.

The towns of Penrith, Keswick, Cockermouth and city of Carlisle are all under 30 minutes drive from Caldbeck. Wigton, a market town, is fifteen minutes drive north.

Local activities
Many lowland river walks surround Caldbeck village and the attractive local countryside. The Cumbrian Way passes through Caldbeck village.

The Lake District National Park offers the start of many miles of hill walking and outdoor pursuits. The bottom of the nearest fell, High Pike, is just 30 minutes walk from the cottage; Blencathra is just 30 minutes drive.

Caldbeck village has a:

  • Cricket pitch, active on summer weekends.
  • Bowling club.
  • Tennis court.
